Aotearoa startup Sharesies share their success story
The Aotearoa financial technology startup Sharesies that changed the way Kiwis invest is coming South next week to share their story and spread the word on investing made simple.
In collaboration with Southland Chamber of Commerce, COIN South, YES and Southland Leadership Academy, Sharesies are speaking at the Kelvin Hotel on Thursday 22 September about their story, why people invest and thoughts on how to get started on investing with Sharesies.
Sheree Carey, Chief Executive of Southland Chamber of Commerce is excited about this opportunity for youth in particular to hear from Sharesies. “We know that increasingly more and more jobs are going to be based around technology in the future, and it’s so important for youth, businesses and the community to hear from a technology startup that started right here in Aotearoa.
Some of the Sharesies founders were part of the YES (Young Enterprise Scheme) at high school. We know that enabling youth with an innovative mindset to think big with real life business fundamental skills is so important for the future success of businesses and New Zealand.”
Sharesies was founded by six Kiwis that together had a vision of creating financial empowerment for everyone. Their vision was to give someone with $5 and someone with $5million the same investment opportunities. Six years later from when they first founded and today Sharesies is used by over 550,000 Kiwis and offers investments into funds and shares in New Zealand, Australia and the United States.
“COIN South is pleased to be part of creating an opportunity for Southlanders to be inspired by a successful Aotearoa startup that has been transformational to the way that New Zealanders invest by breaking down barriers and creating new ways of doing things. This is disruptive technology at its best.” Cathy Peters, COIN South Chief Activator says. The Sharesies speakers will be Susannah Batley, Head of Equity Capital Markets and Company Partnerships and Alice Rountree, a Senior Analyst in the Equity Capital Markets & Company Partnerships team.
