Chamber Link – March 2025

.

Kia ora and welcome to Chamberlink.

Southland businesses are starting the year with renewed confidence, as reflected in our latest Business Confidence Survey. Overall business confidence has surged by 17 points to +48, with 62% of businesses expecting a stronger regional economy over the next 12 months. Investment and employment prospects are also looking bright, with 67% of businesses planning to invest in property, plant, and equipment, and 58% anticipating hiring new staff. While challenges such as compliance costs, productivity constraints, and inflationary pressures remain, our region’s economic resilience is underpinned by diverse industries and exciting new developments, including aquaculture, data centres, and the revitalisation of Invercargill’s CBD.

Southland’s reach extends far beyond our borders. As a proud member of the ICC World Chambers Federation, we are uniquely positioned to help local businesses connect with global markets. In today’s environment, fostering strong trade relationships is critical, and the Chamber is committed to advocating for and supporting exporters as they navigate opportunities abroad.

Closer to home, we invite you to join us at our upcoming Westpac Smarts event, where we’ll discuss exciting projects shaping the future of Southland. Whether it’s infrastructure investments, or business growth strategies, this is your chance to stay informed and engaged. Find out more here.

Together, let’s make 2025 a year of growth, opportunity, and connection for Southland businesses!
