Serena specialises in creating safe platforms and spaces for people to grow their Cultural Competency knowledge.

In this workshop Serena will take you on a journey of exploring:

  • What is cultural competence?
  • How do values and belief systems impact our understanding of racism, privilege, and cultural competence?
  • Where and how do we start on this journey?

This is a practical session. You will leave with tips and ideas that can be implemented in your workplace right away.

Cultural Competence is based on the value of understanding who you are and where you are from creating a platform for us to work alongside people of any ethnic or cultural background. Participants will be engaged with what it means to contribute to the collective intelligence of a community and culture.

Serena has 15+ years training and working in the health and social sector in Māori and non-Māori Organisations for the past 3 years providing training to support business and organisations on their journey of cultural awareness and competence. She has undertaken, written, and trained in cultural competence and has sat on advisory and working groups at a national level around cultural competence of the NGO sector and workforce development of the Social Sector.  She has a Bachelor of Primary Bi-Lingual Teaching, Bachelor of applied Business Management majoring in Māori organisational leadership (distinction), PG diploma Professional Bi-cultural Supervision.
