TechWeek- NZAS

New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) is NZ’s only aluminium smelter, located at Tiwai Point. Each year the smelter produces more than 330,000 tonnes of the world’s purest aluminium using electricity from renewable sources. Technology plays a key part of day-to-day operations with the NZAS team continually working on innovations to create safer, more productive, and effective processes.

TechWeek has ignited the national conversation about New Zealand technology for more than a decade, connecting, promoting and advancing tech to create a better tomorrow for all. TechWeek is a nationwide programme developed and curated locally by regional partners. Fulfilling the six strategic pillars of Tech for the World, Sustainability & Climate, Good Health & Wellbeing, Diversity & Talent, Gen AI, and Digital Safety.

In conjunction with NZAS, we welcome you to our exciting behind the scenes. Meeting at the NZAS visitors centre we look at some of the innovation and technology the smelter has developed to create safer work environments including:

  • Recreation of safety incidents
  • Interactive touch screens for new employees- 3D 'explorable' NZAS
  • In-house 'equipment prestart checks' tablet system being used site-wide
  • and more…

If you're a student exploring future employment opportunities or a business professional seeking to broaden your tech expertise, or keen to see what goes on behind-the-scenes, this is just for you!
