Governance Fundamentals
This one-day workshop provides an understanding of the fundamentals of effective governance and its critical role in an organisation’s success. Throughout the day, you can expect to learn about key governance principles, the roles and responsibilities of the board, and best practices for ensuring transparency and accountability. Using interactive exercises, you will grow your knowledge of risk management, ethical decision-making, and the tools for strategy development and implementation.Participants will be networking with like-minded individuals, from a range of industries including farming, banking, professional services and retail etc. By the end of this workshop, you will have gained valuable knowledge and tools to enhance your governance skills, enabling you to contribute more effectively to your organisation’s leadership, culture, and oversight.

- Introduction to governance
- The role of the board/governance
- Difference between governance, management and representation
- Overview of duties, obligations and general legislation affecting directors and trustees (Companies Act, Trust Act, HSWA etc)
- Overview of finance, strategy and risk from a director, trustee perspective
- Effective board practices and processes I.e., foundational documents, agendas, minutes, meeting structures, work plans.
- Board dynamics, conflict and culture
- Role of the chair
- The future of governance, board successions planning and on-going professional development
