Celebrating Excellence

One of the highlights on the Export Southland calendar is the biennial DHL Export Southland Awards Gala Dinner.

Organised by the Export Southland Committee, the dinner has become a prestigious and popular event. It features a variety of quality local export food, an evening of entertainment and presentations. 

The dinner offers the exporting industry a chance to acknowledge exporters who best characterise the values of the exporting industry and recognise individuals who have made a significant contribution within the Southland export sector. The evening includes the presentation of the following Awards

  • NZAS Export Southland Innovation Award
  • Mataura Valley Milk Organisation Award 
  • Air New Zealand Cargo Individual Award 
  • Graham Dick Memorial Trophy
  • Business Corporate Mentorship
 
We also announce the recipients of the Southland Export Trust Grant. Over the years the grant has assisted many local export businesses towards developing their products and chosen international markets.

The Innovation in Export award is a special award to recognise a Southland business which displays outstanding innovation in the exporting industry.

Innovation is not just inventing. It can include anything genuinely innovative; product or service, leadership, positioning or branding, marketing, sales channels, technology, creative pricing strategy or similar that is distinctly different and differentiates their business.

The winner of this award will illustrate how innovative strategies and practices have contributed to exporting success and applicants are asked to describe how their enterprise has invested in developing innovative thinking, products, services, initiatives, processes, or a business model that has been integral to the enterprise’s success or establishment.

The recipient of this award will have demonstrated sustained and outstanding performance and results in terms of:

  • Export earnings, growth and profit
  • Leadership and direction
  • Excellence in marketing
  • Export strategy and business planning
  • Commitment to quality management
  • Governance


The business will have been engaged in generating significant export earnings for that business and New Zealand.

The Service to Export Award recognises and honours an individual, who may or may not be directly involved with exporting, but in the view of the Export Southland Committee has made a significant contribution to exporting success in Southland.

The individual will have:

  • made an outstanding contribution to exporting success within Southland;
  • assisted or is assisting in developing international recognition for Southland;
  • provided or is providing mentoring or assistance to exporters.


This award is open to people working within the catchment area of Southland.

The Southland Export Grant 2022 has $15,000.00 available and is open to any business or individual involved or contributing to the export sector, regardless of their size, is welcome to apply.

Applications are welcomed to assist in a project or advancement in the Export sector.

The purpose of the Trust Grant is to assist Southland Businesses involved in export to aspire towards a sustainable environment, which supports the introduction of expansion, training, promotion, education, research and development within the sector. Over the years the grant has assisted many local export businesses towards developing their products and chosen international markets.

Export Southland Mentorship Opportunity

We are excited to announce two Business Corporate Mentorships. Open to any business that is looking at taking their product to export or current exporters looking at new markets. A fantastic opportunity to work with DHL or Mataura Valley Milk Experts with extensive experience in the export sector. Judging now in progress.
