Datagrid Construction Information Event

The Southland Business Chamber was proud to host the Datagrid Information Construction Event. We packed the 6th Floor of the Kelvin Hotel with over 100 attendees.

Remi Galasso, Perrine Dhalluin, and Alexander Bunce, shared Datagrid’s ambitious plans. The project, spanning 28,000 m² and standing 9.5 meters high, is set to transform the region. Southland meets five of the six criteria for the data centre’s construction, outpacing Australia, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Key industries required include power, cooling, extensive land, and connectivity. Materials needed range from concrete and steel to security systems, fibre, HVAC, and transformers. The skills in demand include engineering, construction, project management, and logistics. The project will include a 300MW Power Substation, a Cable Landing Station to welcome the Tasman Ring Network subsea cable and three poweredshells data centres of 100MW each.  Resource consent is expected in 2025, with construction anticipated between 2026 and 2028.

The event highlighted Southland’s potential and fostered valuable collaboration for this transformative initiative.
