Westpac Smarts – Regional Real Talk: Mayors with a vision
The Southland Business Chamber, in partnership with Westpac, proudly presented the Westpac Smarts Series – Regional Real Talk: Mayors with a vision. We hosted a full-capacity session featuring an fireside chat with Tom Campbell, newly appointed Mayor of Invercargill City Council, and Ben Bell, Mayor of Gore District. Our MC, Sheree Carey, guided the conversation brilliantly as the mayors shared their perspectives on: What’s happened in their first 40 days? Projects on the horizon and collaboration for a stronger Southland region. Beyond immediate priorities, the mayors explored long-term strategies for Southland, including: Impact of Government Legislation, the implications of reforms like Three Waters and how councils will adapt to ensure efficient service delivery and financial sustainability.
The mayors also shared their vision for the next term, discussed opportunities and challenges facing the region, and emphasized the importance of regional collaboration to drive growth and resilience. The discussion was engaging and informative, with both mayors answering questions thoughtfully. Attendees enjoyed festive Christmas cake and iced tea, adding a Christmas touch to the event.
