Southland Business Chamber Board Announced for 2025/26
The Southland Business Chamber is pleased to unveil its newly elected board members for the 2025/26 term, reinforcing the Chamber’s commitment to fostering robust leadership and meaningful representation within the local business community.
Following a strong turnout and competitive election process, the Chamber welcomes Breidi McStay, Marketing Manager at Windsor Architectural Hardware, as a newly elected board member. Breidi makes history as the Chamber’s first intern board member, having served in this capacity over the past 12 months.
Also re-elected by Chamber members is Helen Robinson, Team Leader – Commercial & Partnerships for the new Southland Museum, who brings extensive experience and continuity to the board.
In addition to the elected positions, the Board has appointed two further members for a 12-month term:
- Courtney Heke-McColgan, Healthy Families Invercargill Systems Innovator – Rautaki Māori at Active Southland, joins the Board as the Māori Business Representative, bringing a wealth of knowledge and deep connections across Murihiku’s tangata whenua and mātā waka communities.
- Jaime McNaught, of Selector Uniforms, has been appointed as the Chamber’s next Intern Board Member, following in the footsteps of Breidi McStay as part of the Chamber’s commitment to developing emerging business leaders.
Chris Hughes, current Chair of the Southland Business Chamber, praised the high calibre of applicants for this year’s appointments:
“We were incredibly impressed by the depth of experience and leadership potential in this year’s candidates. It reflects the growing desire among Southland’s business community to be part of shaping our region’s future.”
Looking ahead, the Board will embark on setting a new five-year strategic plan this June. A key focus will be on supporting the Māori economy, advancing Māori business success, and strengthening advocacy on behalf of all Southland businesses in the face of emerging challenges and opportunities.
Today’s AGM also marked the formal adoption of the Chamber’s new constitution, aligning with the updated Incorporated Societies Act 2022. This modernised governance framework ensures the Chamber is well-positioned to continue serving its members with transparency, accountability, and purpose.
The Chamber also reflects on a successful year as highlighted in the 2024 Annual Report. Key achievements include:
- Record growth and engagement through the Southland Leadership Academy, including the inaugural Youth Leadership Academy.
- A thriving Engineering & Manufacturing Cluster, advancing innovation and collaboration across sectors.
- Export Southland’s success with the 2024 Gala event, recognising standout businesses and emerging entrepreneurs.
- A membership base exceeding 600, underscoring the Chamber’s growing regional impact.
With a clear direction and renewed leadership, the Southland Business Chamber remains steadfast in its mission to empower business success through support, education, and connection.
