X marks the spot for Helicopter Golf Ball drop

If you don’t fancy your golfing accuracy, but still love a day on the green – this competition might be for you.

Next month, the Southland Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Southland Chamber Golf Day.

Instead of a traditional raffle, Chamber membership manager Robert Dennis said it would be dropping thousands of golf balls from a helicopter onto Otatara golf-course, with the winner – the ball that lands closest to the X – taking home $1000.

“The balls will go for $20 for three, there will be a number on each ball, and the ball closest to the mark wins,” he said. “It should be a great day.”

The Chamber had enlisted the help of Southland Helicopters, who were kindly volunteering their services at no charge, he said.

Proceeds of the event will go towards supporting the Young Enterprise Scheme, which works to upskill and inspire the next generation of business leaders.

The Chamber currently delivers The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme throughout Southland on behalf of the Young Enterprise Trust.

The event, named the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, will take place during the chamber’s golf day on November 25.
